アメリカにも 3D 専用 TV チャンネルが登場

以前、イギリスに 3D 専用 TV チャンネルができるということを書きましたが、アメリカでも、ESPN と Discover で 3D 対応の放送が始まるそうです。

どちらもスポーツ番組が対象で、ESPN は 6 月のワールドカップ中継をターゲットにし、Discovery は 2011 年に アメリカ初の 24 時間対応の 3D 専用 TV チャンネルのサービス開始を予定。イギリスより一年遅れですね。

記事にも書かれていますが、もちろん視聴者は専用の機器や TV も必要で、プレミアム料金も払わなければならないようで、ラグジュアリ感のあるサービスになりそうですね…。

私はしばらく映画館だけでいいや。

3D TV channel coming to The US, too

Once I wrote about the launch of 3D TV channel in the UK, now the US media announced ESPN and Discover would launch 3D service in North America.

Both will offer sports programs. ESPN is targetting the 6th of this June for their launch to broadcast FIFA World Cup. Discovery will launch 24-hour 3D broadcasting service in 2011. It's one year later after BSkyB in the UK.

The article says "To take advantage of the technology, viewers will need a new set-top box in addition to a new television set, which may prove too pricey for mainstream customers. It is likely that viewers will also have to pay a premium."...it seems for wealthy geeks.

For the time being, I'll enjoy 3D movie only at the cinema.
