BAFTA、キャリー・マリガンとコリン・ファースが受賞

2 月 21 日、イギリスのアカデミー賞にあたる、BAFTA（British Academy Of Film And Television Arts）の授賞式が開催されました。

主演女優賞を得たのは、「17 歳の肖像」で主演したキャリー・マリガン。かつてご紹介したニック・ホーンヴィが脚本を書いた作品です。

「プライドと偏見」にも出演していたとは、気が付きませんでした。四女のキティ役だったんですね。映像が本当に美しいこの作品、もう一度観たくなりました。

主演男優賞は、デザイナーのトム･フォードが監督した「ア・シングルマン」（日本では 10 月公開予定）のダンディなコリン・ファース。息の長い人気イギリス人俳優が、今回 BAFTA で初めて受賞とはちょっと驚きです。

二人とも、来週発表になるアカデミー賞にもノミネートされていて、結果が気になるところ。「17 歳の肖像」は作品賞でもノミネートされていて、4 月の日本での公開が今から楽しみです。

もう一つ話題になったことといえば、イラクにおける米軍の爆発物処理班を描いた「ハート・ロッカー」と、話題の 3D 映画「アバター」の一騎打ち。

ジェームズ・キャメロンの「アバター」が様々な部門にノミネートされるも、美術賞と特殊視覚効果賞といったあまり主要でない 2 部門の受賞にとどまったのに対し、キャスリン・ビグローの「ハート・ロッカー」は、作品賞・監督賞・脚本賞・撮影賞・編集賞・音響賞と主要 6 部門を堂々の受賞。どこかイギリスらしい

「ハート・ロッカー」のキャスリン・ビグローは、BAFTA で女性として初めて監督賞を受賞。彼女はジェームズ・キャメロンの前妻なんですね。観客席からキャメロンが彼女の女性に拍手を送る 1 コマも。

アカデミー賞の前哨戦とも言われる BAFTA。

映画の良さは賞の多さとは関係ありませんが、英国勢がどれだけアカデミー賞でも活躍するのか、今から楽しみです。

そして、映画とは別部門ですが、スーパーマリオなどのゲームクリエーターとして有名な、任天堂の宮本茂氏がフェローシップ賞を受賞。

ところで先週、仕事でプレスリリースの Web ページを作っていていたら、「〜が今年のアカデミー賞を受賞」という原稿がやってきました。「授賞式はまだ来週なのに、なぜもう受賞したことに？」と疑問に思っていたら、アカデミー賞の中には「ノミネート＝受賞」という部門があるのだと、この業界に詳しい同僚が教えてくれました。ちなみにそれは科学工学賞など。

アカデミー賞授賞式は 3 月 7 日（日本時間で翌 7 日）

BAFTA 2010, Carey Mulligan and Colin Firth Won The Prize

This year's BAFTA（British Academy Of Film And Television Arts）was held at the Royal Opera House on 22 February. BAFTA is equal to the Oscar.

Carey Mulligan won the best actress award for her performance in "An Education". The script of the film was written by Nick Hornby whose book I introduced before.

I didn't remember she was starring in "Pride & Prejudice" as Kitty, the fourth daughter. I want to watch the film with beautiful scenery again now.

The best actor award went to dandy Colin Firth for "A Single Man" (on screen this October in Japan) directed by a fashion designer, Tom Ford. I could not believe this was his first BAFTA during his long career in the industry.

Both of them are also nominated for the Oscar. I cannot wait a good news. "An Education" is on the list of the Academy nominees in the best film category. I really look forward the release of the film this April in Japan.

Another top feature was the battle between American films, "the Hurt Locker" a drama about a US bomb disposal unit in Iraq, and "Avatar", the 3D fantasy which is a blockbuster film around the world.

While "Avatar" was nominated in many categories and could ultimately won only 2 minor awards (production design and special visual effects), "the Hurt Locker" won main 6 prizes, best film, best director, original screen play, cinematography, editing and sound. The British made their own selection.

Kathryn Bigelow, the director for "The Hurt Locker" becomes the first woman in BAFTA history to take the best director award. She is the former wife of James Cameron, who cheered her on from the audience.

BAFTA is said a prelude to the Academy Awards. We cannot judge a film only by prize, but it makes me more excited to see how the British can be successful at the Academy Awards this year.

Regarding another category, Shigeru Miyamoto, a game creator of Super Mario Brothers, received the Fellowship at this year's GAME British Academy Video Games Awards.

By the way, I had to create a Web page for a press release last week. The draft which I received said "xxxx is this year's winner at the Academy Award...". I wonder why they already knew the winner. My colleague who know the industry well, told me that in some categories nominees automatically turned into a winner. This is an example... scientific and engineering award.

The Academy Awards will be held on 7 March in the US.

イギリス版「イントゥ・ザ・ワイルド」

「英国の少年が恋した最果ての土地」

このタイトルを目にして、思わず昨年観た映画「イントゥ・ザ・ワイルド」を思い出してしまいました。

映画では、エモリー大学を優秀な成績で卒業したクリスは、物質主義と偽善に溢れる社会に嫌気がさし、預金残高の 24,000 ドルを寄付し、クレジットカードを捨てて、憧れの地アラスカに向けて旅立ちます。

途中様々な人々との出会いと別れを繰り返しながら、最後には、あらゆるモノとも人とも隔離された理想的の地、アラスカにたどりつくます。

思いがけない結末に切なくなりますが、単なる清貧を求めるのとも違う、若さゆえの潔癖なまでの純粋さと情熱、社会への苛立ち、自由への渇望など、いろいろな恣意が複雑にまじりあった彼の想いに、心の奥底で共感せずにはいられませんでした。

これが実話であることも驚きですが、誰もが刹那的な思いつきで終わってしまうことを実践できた彼の姿が、私にはまぶしくて仕方がないのです。

さて、前置きが長くなりましたが、冒頭のタイトルがついていたのは以下の記事です。

この記事にあるロブソン少年は、どうやらそこまで過酷な旅路をたどったわけではないようですが、はるばるスコットランド北西にあるヘブリディーズ諸島まで幾度も訪ね、その自然と景観をこよなく愛した末、大人になったロブソンは、諸島の中の 1 つ、ルイス島に移り住むことになりました。

記事に掲載されている写真がどれも素晴らしい。まるで CG で作られた映画の世界のように、完璧すぎる美しい風景！！

マン島（イギリス西部）やワイト島（イギリス南部）など、イギリス本土周辺の島というのは昔から気になっていたものの、残念なことにまだ一度も行ったことがありません。

今年は久しぶりにイギリスに行かないと。。。

島の辺りはなかなか寒い時期だと厳しいので、つい足が遠のいてしまいます。

それにしても「イントゥ・ザ・ワイルド」、私の周りだと圧倒的に男性の支持が強いのです。知人が奥さんを連れて観に行ったら、「なんでこんな暗い映画を観せるの！」と怒られたそうです。私の映画の好みは男性寄り。。。

"Michael Robson fell in love in 1948 - with a place he'd never been."

When I saw this title, it reminded me of the film "Into the wild" which I watched last year. Sean Penn wrote the screenplay and directed the film.

In the film, Chris graduated from Emory University with excellent results, but he was fed up with the society obsessed by materialism and hypocrisy. He sent his deposit 24,000 dollars as charity and threw away credit cards in a garbage can...then decided to leave for his Mecca, Alaska.

After having experienced various meetings and partings, finally he reached Alaska, his holy land which was free from all sorts of things and people.

I had to encounter the unexpected end of the story, well...I think he was not only obsessed by the idea to devote himself to a life of purity and poverty. He was driven by a mixture of all sorts of youthful feelings, fastidious honesty and passion, frustration and irritation over the society, crave for freedom...I could not help sympathizing with what he thought from my heart.

Amazingly this story was based on the real story. I couldn't help being impressed by way of his life. He was so honest and pure that he could practice what he got in his mind which would be only a piece of idea for most of the people.

Well, so much for preliminaries. What I'd like to tell you is the National Geographic's article below.

National Geographic Michael Robson fell in love in 1948 - with a place he'd never been.

Though a boy called Robson in the article does not seem to have got into such a tough road, he fell in love with the nature and landscape of Scotland’s Hebrides and visited there several times. In the end, he moved to Lewis, the northern part of the Outer Hebrides when he grew up.

All pictures in the article are so fantastic. They are perfect sceneries like CG art.

The beautiful sceneries of the islands such as Mann Island or Isle of Wight were always in the back of my mind, but I've missed the chance to visit.

I need to travel to the UK this year...I think.

Winter is not a good season to visit islands and beaches (same with Scotland).

By the way, many friends of mine could not stop praising "Into The Wild" a great deal...most of them are guys. My taste is rather manlike?

新年の抱負 !? - Julie & Julia -

職場の人に誘われて、「ジュリー＆ジュリア」を観てきました。

普段、この手の映画は観に行かないのですが、昨年末の公開時に話題になったのも納得のユーモアに溢れた素敵な映画でした。

2つの実話に基づいたこの物語では、時代を超えて、二人の女性が料理に携わり、出版する（それは本であったり、ブログであったり）することで自分の世界を切り拓いていきます。

二人は失敗したり、パートナーへの愛情で乗り越えたりという筋立ては他の映画にもよくあることですが、料理というところからいろいろなことに気付いていくのがこの映画の面白いところ。

「プラダを着た悪魔」の辣腕編集長を思い出すと、ユニークなパリのアメリカ人を演じるメリル・ストリープの豹変した演技もこの映画を支えています。彼女の大柄さを改めて認識。 祝、今年のゴールデン・グローブ賞のコメディー・ミュージカル部門主演女優賞！

ジュリー役のエイミー・アダムスもキュートでした。

私もどんなに辛いこと、きついことがあろうが、読んでくれる人がいる限り、ブログを書き続けようと決意した夜でした。それが自分の唯一できること。

New year's resolution --- Julie & Julia

My colleague took me to cinema for “Julie & Julia”.

Usually I don’t feel like going for Hollywood-comedy films, but it was worth doing. Many media wrote about the film at the release of last December. It is a well-made movie filled with good sense of humour.

The film was based on the 2 true stories. 2 women challenged cooking French cuisine and publishing about it (in book or blog…different format) to gain their new world in different times.

Both of them had to struggle or came over many difficulties with their partners… we can see this kind of story in so many movies. What I like in it is both girls found life, love and many things from cooking.

If you have seen Meryl Streep’s “able” editor in “The Devil Wears Prada”, you cannot imagine this is the same actress. I have to agree how great she is…and how tall she is after seeing this film. Meryl was honored with a “Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy Or Musical” with this film.

As Julie, Amy Adams was so cute.

After seeing this movie, I learned that I have to carry on my blog as long as I have readers, even if I have a hard time or a bumpier road. That’s only what I can do.
