BAFTA、キャリー・マリガンとコリン・ファースが受賞

2 月 21 日、イギリスのアカデミー賞にあたる、BAFTA（British Academy Of Film And Television Arts）の授賞式が開催されました。

主演女優賞を得たのは、「17 歳の肖像」で主演したキャリー・マリガン。かつてご紹介したニック・ホーンヴィが脚本を書いた作品です。

「プライドと偏見」にも出演していたとは、気が付きませんでした。四女のキティ役だったんですね。映像が本当に美しいこの作品、もう一度観たくなりました。

主演男優賞は、デザイナーのトム･フォードが監督した「ア・シングルマン」（日本では 10 月公開予定）のダンディなコリン・ファース。息の長い人気イギリス人俳優が、今回 BAFTA で初めて受賞とはちょっと驚きです。

二人とも、来週発表になるアカデミー賞にもノミネートされていて、結果が気になるところ。「17 歳の肖像」は作品賞でもノミネートされていて、4 月の日本での公開が今から楽しみです。

もう一つ話題になったことといえば、イラクにおける米軍の爆発物処理班を描いた「ハート・ロッカー」と、話題の 3D 映画「アバター」の一騎打ち。

ジェームズ・キャメロンの「アバター」が様々な部門にノミネートされるも、美術賞と特殊視覚効果賞といったあまり主要でない 2 部門の受賞にとどまったのに対し、キャスリン・ビグローの「ハート・ロッカー」は、作品賞・監督賞・脚本賞・撮影賞・編集賞・音響賞と主要 6 部門を堂々の受賞。どこかイギリスらしい

「ハート・ロッカー」のキャスリン・ビグローは、BAFTA で女性として初めて監督賞を受賞。彼女はジェームズ・キャメロンの前妻なんですね。観客席からキャメロンが彼女の女性に拍手を送る 1 コマも。

アカデミー賞の前哨戦とも言われる BAFTA。

映画の良さは賞の多さとは関係ありませんが、英国勢がどれだけアカデミー賞でも活躍するのか、今から楽しみです。

そして、映画とは別部門ですが、スーパーマリオなどのゲームクリエーターとして有名な、任天堂の宮本茂氏がフェローシップ賞を受賞。

ところで先週、仕事でプレスリリースの Web ページを作っていていたら、「〜が今年のアカデミー賞を受賞」という原稿がやってきました。「授賞式はまだ来週なのに、なぜもう受賞したことに？」と疑問に思っていたら、アカデミー賞の中には「ノミネート＝受賞」という部門があるのだと、この業界に詳しい同僚が教えてくれました。ちなみにそれは科学工学賞など。

アカデミー賞授賞式は 3 月 7 日（日本時間で翌 7 日）

BAFTA 2010, Carey Mulligan and Colin Firth Won The Prize

This year's BAFTA（British Academy Of Film And Television Arts）was held at the Royal Opera House on 22 February. BAFTA is equal to the Oscar.

Carey Mulligan won the best actress award for her performance in "An Education". The script of the film was written by Nick Hornby whose book I introduced before.

I didn't remember she was starring in "Pride & Prejudice" as Kitty, the fourth daughter. I want to watch the film with beautiful scenery again now.

The best actor award went to dandy Colin Firth for "A Single Man" (on screen this October in Japan) directed by a fashion designer, Tom Ford. I could not believe this was his first BAFTA during his long career in the industry.

Both of them are also nominated for the Oscar. I cannot wait a good news. "An Education" is on the list of the Academy nominees in the best film category. I really look forward the release of the film this April in Japan.

Another top feature was the battle between American films, "the Hurt Locker" a drama about a US bomb disposal unit in Iraq, and "Avatar", the 3D fantasy which is a blockbuster film around the world.

While "Avatar" was nominated in many categories and could ultimately won only 2 minor awards (production design and special visual effects), "the Hurt Locker" won main 6 prizes, best film, best director, original screen play, cinematography, editing and sound. The British made their own selection.

Kathryn Bigelow, the director for "The Hurt Locker" becomes the first woman in BAFTA history to take the best director award. She is the former wife of James Cameron, who cheered her on from the audience.

BAFTA is said a prelude to the Academy Awards. We cannot judge a film only by prize, but it makes me more excited to see how the British can be successful at the Academy Awards this year.

Regarding another category, Shigeru Miyamoto, a game creator of Super Mario Brothers, received the Fellowship at this year's GAME British Academy Video Games Awards.

By the way, I had to create a Web page for a press release last week. The draft which I received said "xxxx is this year's winner at the Academy Award...". I wonder why they already knew the winner. My colleague who know the industry well, told me that in some categories nominees automatically turned into a winner. This is an example... scientific and engineering award.

18 回の流産を乗り越え、無事出産

イギリスで 18 回の流産を経験した末、無事に女児を出産したアンジー・ベイカーさんのことが話題に。週末、Yahoo ニュースでも取り上げられていたので、目にした方も多いことでしょう。

私の隣に座るゴシップ好きの同僚ともこのニュースが話題になり、まだ 33 歳で、13 年の間に 18 回も流産したという点で二人とも驚き。

主治医はベイカーさんの白血球に問題があり、不妊につながっていたと診断。「18 回も流産するより、宝くじに当たる方がはるかに簡単」ということばはちょっとショッキング。

まだ 100 年ぐらい前までは、出産時に女性が命を危うくすることが決して珍しくなかった時代。医学の発達した現代ですら、私の周りでは流産を経験している女性が少なくありません。

それでも、人間何でも忘れてしまうもので、2 回の流産の末に男の子を産んだ知人は、日常生活で家事と仕事のバランスを取るのが難しくなると、ついつい子どもにあたってしまうそうです。

彼女が少しストレスがたまっていそうに見える時、「流産しても、がんばって子どもを産んだよね。子どもって欲しくてもなかなか産めるものじゃないから、本当にラッキーだったよねえ」と私が話しかけると、彼女は魔法にかかったように幸せな顔を取り戻します。

私もこんなことを書きながら、いつか子どもを持ったら同じようなことばで諌められるんだろうか…。今から反省。

Giving Birth After 18th Miscarriage

Angie Baker, 33 year-old from East Sussex, finally gave birth to a baby girl after 18th miscarriage. Many Japanese found this news as it was picked up on Yahoo news last weekend.

My gossip-lover colleague sitting next to me knew and talked about it with me. Both of us got so surprised that Mrs. Baker had 18 miscarriages at 33 for 13 years.

Her doctor found out that her white blood cells caused a problem with pregnancy. "Eighteen miscarriages is a huge number. You're more likely to win the lottery than have 18 miscarriages through bad luck."... his words sound so shocking.

Around 100 years ago, many women had to take a fatal risk when they delivered a baby. Even now, some of my friends had to experience a miscarriage despite of advance in modern medicine.

Well, we will easily forget all sorts of things, even the hardest part in your life. One of my friend finally got a baby boy after 2 miscarriages. Now she sometimes becomes hard on his little boy when she lacks a balance between her job and household responsibilities.

When she looks stressed out, I tell her "you could finally give birth to a baby boy despite of 2 miscarriages. It's amazing, you've done a great job. Not all women cannot have a baby, so you're such a lucky girl!" As soon as she is told like that, she looks enchanted and has a big smile on her face.

Though I am writing this, who knows what will happen to me? Somebody might tell me the same thing when I got a kid. It seems I've already needed moments of reflection.

Help! アビー・ロード・スタジオ、売却の危機を逃れるか？

先週から何かと話題になっている、アビイ・ロード・スタジオ売却問題。

ビートルズが数々の名アルバムを録音したことで知られ、音楽家の評判も高いこのスタジオ、先週までは EMI が売却をほぼ決定し、どこが買収先になるのかと話題になりましたが、昨日方向転換した模様。今は出資先との話し合いが進んでいるようです。

元ビートルズのメンバー、ポール・マッカートニーが存続のために音頭をとったり、 Cats などで有名な作曲家、アンドリュー・ロイド・ウェーバー がスタジオの買収に興味を示したり、ナショナル・トラストやイングリッシュ・ヘリテッジまで申し出て、状況は二転三転しているようです。

友達の家に行く途中に通ったアビイ・ロード。アビイ・ロードのそばに住んでいると言えば、格が上がるもの。スタジオの辺りは高級住宅地ですが、ちょっと北に行けば移民の多い雑然とした町並みだったり、ロンドンは街が複雑に入り組んでいます。

BBC のニュース動画にもたくさん出ていますが、相変わらずみんなここでお馴染みのポーズの撮影をするんですね。

ところで、埼玉にあるジョン・レノン・ミュージアムが今年の ９ 月 30 日で閉館してしまうのが悔やまれます。

Help! Who Could Save Abbey Road Studio

Abbey Road Studio sell-off has become a top issue from last week.

It is well known as a historical music studio where the Beatles recorded many albums and many musicians have loved this top studio. EMI almost decided to sell the studios, media tried to find out who could be the new owner of it. But it seems EMI changed their mind. They started the talk with the third party which would invest in the revitalisation of the North London complex.

Ex-Beatle Sir Paul McCartney called for Abbey Road to be saved. Lord Lloyd-Webber, the musical composer, was also very interested in buying the studios. National Trust and English Heritage also showed their strong interest to buy the studios. The things are still going backward and forwards.

I always passed Abbey Road by bus on the way to my friend's house. If you can say "I'm living near from Abbey Road", your place sounds so high-status. There are nice old houses around the studio and one of the exclusive residential districts in London. Within a stone's cast of it, you can see a different echnic aspect of the area with many immigrants. London is a maze of town with so many different faces.

Even now, many tourists and Londoners visit here to take a photo imitating the famous record jacket. You can see it in the BBC's video.

By the way, it's such a pity that the John Lennon Museum in Saitama will close on 30 September. I must hurry!

Graffiti コレクター、Banksy の作品を￡30,000 で救出

イギリスで一番有名なグラフィティ・アーティストと言えば、やはり Banksy!

彼の作品集を見ると、ほんとイギリスらしいシニカルで、知的で、ポップな作風が何とも言えず、つい本屋の店先でページをめくりながらニヤニヤしてしまいます。

今回話題になっているのは、ロンドン南部、クロイドンの工事現場にあった壁に Banksy が描いたと言われている作品。

そもそも、落書きであるグラフィティ・アートには、他のアート作品と違って作者がはっきりしないものがほとんどですし、Banksy 自身が自分の素性を明かそうとしないことで有名で、今回の作品が本当に彼の作品か真偽のほどは謎のままです。

それでも、グラフィティ収集家の 2 人は、この作品を守るため開発会社に 30,000 ポンド（日本円で約 4,230,000 円）を支払い、9 日 9 晩かけて壁を掘り出した後、クレーンを使って 1 トンもするスチール製の額に収め、北イングランドのとある場所に搬送されるそうです。

この記事を読んだ当初は、不運を恐れずに作品を守ろうとする芸術愛好家 2 人の愛と情熱の物語、と思っていたのですが、彼らは後日この作品が 500,000 ポンド（約 70,000,000 円）で売れることを見込んで準備しているらしい。百年の恋も一気に覚めるような気持ち…。

ウォーター・ルーの元 Eurostar 用に使われていたトンネルに描かれた Banksy の作品はその後どうなったかなあ。

Collectors Spend ￡30,000 Rescuing Banksy Mural

- But He Won't Confirm It's Real

Everyone will agree that Banksy is the most popular British graffiti artist.

His works are always cynical, witty, pop and filled with sense of British humour. I cannot stop giggling at a book shop while seeing his art books.

They found so-called Banksy's mural on a construction site in Croydon, South London.

Graffiti is normally very different from other art works and does not have a certificate. Moreover, as Banksy keeps his identity a close secret, the collectors will never know who drew the mural.

Anyway, 2 collectors paid ￡30,000 to the construction company. After digging it out of the ground for 9 days and 9 nights, the mural will be removed into a 1-tonne steel frame by using a crane. Finally it will be moved to a secret location in the North of England.

On my first reading, I thought it was the story of love and passion by 2 collectors who would not care any risks for their love of art. When I knew they were preparing to sell the mural for ￡500,000, my throb turned into disappointment suddenly.

I wonder whether one of Banksy's works is still existing in the tunnel for old Eurostar at Waterloo station.

Brit Awards 2010 の受賞結果は

2 月 16 日が授賞式だった Brit Award、今年は US の Lady Gaga の風変わりな衣装と彼女のインターナショナル 3 部門受賞が話題になったようです。

こちらはダイジェスト映像の 1 つ。

最近日本でも話題の Lady Gaga、私はどちらかと言うと Queen の Radio Ga Ga の方が思い浮かぶなあ、と思っていたら、どうも彼女の芸名はこの曲名に由来しているらしい。 ちょうどファッションデザイナーのアレクサンダー・マックイーンが亡くなった直後で、彼女も演奏の冒頭でマックイーンへの追悼の言葉を述べました。

ユニクロ愛用家のラッパー、Dizzee Rascal はイギリス・ソロアーティスト部門を受賞。Rascal とイギリス・アルバム賞を受賞した Florence & The Machine の授賞式の共演が、授賞式から 5 時間とたたずに iTunes ストアで発売され、チャートの 1 位になったのは今時らしい話題です（イギリスの iTunes ストアでのみ有効なので、日本では購入できませんが）。

以前、私が投票した「過去 30 年間におけるイギリス最優秀アルバム」の部門は、オアシスの「(What's The Story) Morning Glory?」が受賞し、コールドプレイも Dido も漏れてしまって残念。そういえば、イギリス・グループ部門にノミネートされていた Doves が受賞されなかったのも残念。

今年の功労賞を受賞した Robbie Williams のメドレー演奏を観ていると、イギリスのラジオでもなじみのある曲の数々が含まれていて、世代を超えて時代を代表する歌手なんだとしみじみと実感しました。

そして「過去 30 年間における最優秀ヒット曲」の部門では、ビー・ジーズも、The Who も、カイリー・ミノーグも、なんとマイケル・ジャクソンも差し置いて、スパイス・ガールズの「Wannabe/Who Do You Think You Are」が名誉の栄冠を手にしたのです。なんともイギリスらしいというか…。

Winner For Brit Awards 2010

Brit Awards 2010 was held in London on 16 February. This year's big news was Lady Gaga's extraordinary costume and her hat trick.

These days, Lady Gaga is getting popular in Japan, too. I rather prefer Queen's "Radio Ga Ga" which is coincidentally the root of her name. The show was just after the death of Alexander McQueen. Lady Gaga started her performance with a tribute to this great fashion designer.

Uniqlo follower, Dizzee Rascal won "British Male Solo Artist." After Rascal and another winner Florence & The Machine (MasterCard British Album) performed together on the stage, it was distributed on iTunes Store within 5 hours after the show and became No.1 at the store. It was a kind of breakthrough topic for this year (the tune is available only in the UK, so we cannot buy it in Japan).

BRITs Album of 30 Years in which I voted went to Oasis' "(What's The Story) Morning Glory?" What a shame, it didn't go to Coldplay nor Dido. Oh, Doves also missed the title as British Group.

Robbie Williams won Outstanding Contribution Award. His medley included many iconic tunes played on the radio. I realized he is one of the most poplar artist for all ages in the UK.

The BRITs Hits 30 went to... not Bee Gees, The Who, Kylie Minogue, Michael Jackson... amazingly to Spice Girls' "Wannabe/Who Do You Think You Are." Well, that's in the UK.

ギエムとルグリ in ballet

昨年はシルヴィ・ギエムを観る機会が贅沢なほどたくさんありましたが、ボレロを踊ったベジャールの追悼公演からほぼ一年後、同じ会場で「マニュエル・ルグリの新しき世界」でギエムを観てきました（2 月 6 日、ゆうぽうと）。

ルグリの看板公演で、パリ・オペラ座のアニエス・ルテステュ、オレリー・デュポンやシュツットガルトバレエ団、アメリカン・バレエ・シアターのダンサーなど豪華な顔ぶれのガラ公演なのに、行く前から頭の中はギエム一色。

今回の注目の的と言えば、ルグリとギエムの 15 年ぶりの共演。踊られたのは、キリアンの「優しい嘘」とケネス・マクミランの「三人姉妹」の 2 演目でした。

■ 優しい嘘（振付：イリ・キリアン）

2007 年に、ニコラ・ル・リッシュと踊った時には、ル・リッシュに抱きかかえられ、その腕の上で体を丸く縮めるギエムの姿が、儚く危うい息吹をもつ胎児のように見え、不思議な安息の瞬間があった。

毎回、静謐なこの作品を観ていると、音楽がモンテベルディからグレゴリアン聖歌へと移り変わっていくうちに、ついつい観ている自分も無我の境地に陥ってしまうのが難点。瞑想している内にあっという間に小品が終わってしまう。。。

今回、ルグリと踊る様子は、ともかく二人共よく動くので、キリアンの世界の「静」以上に、冒頭から「動」のイメージが強い。そこまで身体を動かすかと、まず二人の驚愕的な身体性を再認識。双方が対等に動けるが故に、静かな空間を切り裂くような躍動感を相乗効果で醸し出す。

チェコ人キリアンの、フォーサイスとはまた異なる静謐で緻密な世界は、禅のような静寂な世界を思い起こさせる。ギエムとルグリのペアは、彼らだからなし得る熟練した形で、動と静の対比の中に巧みに無の境地を表現した。

■ 三人姉妹（振付：ケネス・マクミラン）

チェーホフの同名小説が元になっているこの作品では、田舎教師のクルイギンとの結婚に息が詰まる思いをしていた次女マーシャ（ギエム）は、ヴェルシーニン中佐（ルグリ）と恋に落ちる。今回の公演では、この中から最後の「別れ」のパ・ド・ドゥが踊られた。

この作品も、今までにギエムとニコラ・ル・リッシュのペアで何度か観たことがあるが、ギエムのベストパートナーは、クラシックバレエとしてあるべき形…男性が女性をひきたてるスタイルで相手をサポートし、お互いの苦悩と愛情のぶつかりを表現していた。

今回のルグリでは、あえて「女性をひきたてる」という趣向は薄まった感があった。ここでギエムとルグリという今世紀のスターダンサー二人が全く対等に渡り合って、互いの才能と個性を舞台上でぶつけあい、作品の芸術性を高めているかのようで新鮮だった。

ギエムの演じるマーシャについては、あえてここでは舞踏評論家アン・ヌージェントが言葉巧みに表現している文章を引用する。

「自分の境遇に課せられた社会的な制約のため、ヒロインたちは望みどおりの人生を選ぶことができない。ギエムはこれまでの解釈を踏襲せず、自分の言葉でそれぞれのキャラクターに迫っていった。彼女のマーシャとマルグリット*には現代的な感受性が仄見え、それは時折、危険な揺らぎとなって表面に現れる。」

「マーシャは、陸軍中佐ヴェルシーニンとの出会いに、束の間の幸福を見出す。ひょっとしたら自分のものになっていたかもしれない運命。だがマーシャの喜びは、悲しみに彩られている。おそらく決して手に入らないものに向かって、恍惚と身体を投げ出すギエムの動きに、観客はその悲哀を感じ取るだろう。」

*マルグリットはフレデリック・アシュトンの「マルグリットとアルマン」のヒロイン。これもロイヤル・バレエで、ギエムの十八番となった演目。

阻まれる愛、不可能な愛がテーマの演目。

互いに配偶者や子があり、貫くことのできない愛――ヌージェントの文章にもあるように、ギエムの一挙手一投足 から、悲しみに裏付けされた愛がほとばしり、切ない気持ちをかきたてられる。

最近はめっきりコンテンポラリーしか踊らなくなってしまったギエムだが、パリ・オペラ座やロイヤル・オペラ時代とも異なった情感溢れる舞台を観ると、もっと古典も踊ってほしいと切に願ってしまう。今回の「三人姉妹」を観て、彼女のさらなる進化を感じさせられた。

他の芸術と違わず、バレエでも観客が好むのは喜劇より悲劇。演じる方とってはじつは喜劇の方が数倍も難しいのだけど、観客は自らの悲しみのカタルシスのために悲劇を好み、興行側もその時流に乗ることを忘れない。

観るのは悲劇でもいいけれど、

実人生ではやっぱり悲劇はイヤだなあ…。

Guillem and Regris in Ballet

I was so lucky last year that I could see Sylvie Guillem on the stage several times in Tokyo. It was just a year after I saw her Borelo in the memorial gala for Maurice Bejart at the same theatre, I could find her again at the same theatre in “New Universe of Manuel Legris” (2010/02/06 at Gotanda U-Port).

Manuel Legris was the hero of the night, other guest dancers included Agnès Letestu and Aurélie Dupont from the Opéra national de Paris, and more from Stuttgarter Ballett and American Ballet Theater. It was a luxurious gala, but I had already got so excited to think about Guillem’s performance. It was an unbelievable and comfortable moment.

The main feature of the gala was a collaboration between Guillem and Legris for the first time after their 15-years separation. They performed “Doux Mensonges” by Jiri Kylian and “Winter Dreams” by Kenneth MacMillan.

My first view of this work goes back to the performance by Guillem and Nicolas Le Riche. Guillem curled her legs in his arms and looked like a tiny baby with a fragile life.

Every time I see this piece of dance, the tranquil stillness invites me to spiritual state above my mind while music changing from Monteverdi　to Gregorian Chant. Medication takes me so far, I always miss what’s going on the stage.

The partnership between Guillem and Regris created so kinetic movement that dynamic aspect was emphasizd more than tranquility of Kylian’s　work. They stands out from any other dancers in dynamic and aesthetic movement. Both of them were free from any restrictions with a hardened body and an aesthetic sensibility. Their truly equal partnership generated a synergistic effect to create noble and beautiful impact to break the stillness.

The works by Jiri Kylian, Czech choreographer, have a different type of tranquility world from William Forthyse’s one, it’s rather a reminiscent of tranquility of Zen. Guillem and Regris successfully expressed spiritual state of nothingness by their unique and skilled way to contrast silence and dynamic.

This work is based on Chekhov's play "Three Sisters." Masha, the middle sister was feeling trapped in her marriage to Kulygin, the local school teacher. She fell in love with Lt. Colonel Vershinin. Guillem and Regis performed pas de deux "Farewell."

I’ve also seen Guillem and Nicolas Le Riche dance this several times. Le Riche supported and squired Guillem by following the ideal way of classical ballet. Their movement brought their love, passion and sadness directly to the audience. In the end, it turned into emotional conflict to be torn by their family, society, and fate.

In contrast, Regris didn’t really follow this classical approach. Two distinguished star-dancers in the century were truly equal again throughout the program. They danced with a strong partnership. The discord of their talent and personality made the artistic caliber of the work amazingly higher.

Regarding Masha performed by Guillem, I’d like to introduce the words by a dance reviewer, Ann Nugent.

"Their heroines are prevented from leading fulfilled lives because of social expectations attached to their situations. Guillem, far from suggesting that she is an inheritor of roles, approaches the different characters in her own idiom. Her Masha and Marguritte reveal glimpse of a modern sensibility, and from time to time they brush with danger."

"For Masha, the middle sister, who is trapped into a respectable but loveless marriage, there comes a brief period of happiness when she meets Lt Col. Vershinin. Masha's joy, as she catches sight of a destiny that could be hers is tinged with sadness. You can feel this in Guillem's ecstatic sweeps of movement she seems to reach for the unattainable."

*Marguerite is a heroine in "Marguerite and Armand" choreographed by Frederick Ashton. One of the Guillem's best performances at Royal Ballet.

Romance and love with obstacles and difficulties are the main theme of the work.

Both of Masha and Vershinin had a partner and child, and it was impossible for them to carry on loving each other. As Nugen wrote, Guillem’s all steps traced her love with sadness and made us filled with painful pathos.

Guillem has performed only contemporary program recently. After I saw her more emotional dance than when she performed at the one at the Opera national de Paris or Royal Ballet, I cannot stop long for her dancing classical programs. Her Masha realized me that she was still evolving her dance.

Like other form of art, audience prefers tragedy to comedy in ballet, too. It’s much harder for artists to perform tragedy than comedy. But audience wants tragedy for cathartic effects, and promoters never forget to chase after what the audience want.

I wouldn’t mind to see tragedy personally,
but I don’t want tragedy in my life.

UK で男性が好む下着の色は？

バレンタイン・デーを前に Telegraph.co.uk に掲載された記事「アンケート調査によると、男性が最も好む下着の色は黒」。

一昔前というと、バレンタイン・デーに男性から、レースのついた赤い下着を女性に送るのがイギリスでは人気だったそうです（外国ではバレンタイン・デーは男女が互いにプレゼントを用意する）。

それが最新の調査によると逆転し、男性が相手の下着の色として最も嫌いな色として、半数以上が赤と回答。それに続いて不人気なのはピンク系（18%）、ベージュ系（11%）。逆に最も人気なのが黒で、2 番目に人気なのは白だと判明。

同じ調査によると、イギリスの 3 分の 2 の女性は、まだ赤が一番男性が好むセクシーな色だと思っているので、相互でギャップが生まれているようです。この記事を読んで、バレンタイン・デーの下着の色を変えた女性がどれだけいたのしょう…。

この結果、イギリスならではでしょうか。少し前にとある日本の女性誌で見かけた調査結果では、日本で男性が相手の下着の色として不人気ナンバー 1 だったのは黒、それに続いて赤系、パープル系とあった記憶が。

文化圏によって、文化人類学的に色の効果も変わってくるのでしょうか。さらなる調査をお願いしたいところです。

ところで、この調査を実施した「Dr Beckmann」、記事にあった「laundrycare expert」という肩書きを「lingerie expert」と読み間違え、下着学の研究者でもいるのかと思って調べてみたら

Dr Beckmann という衣類・家庭用洗剤を販売している企業でした。確かに、この会社の染み抜きはスーパーにもありました。

数年前、イギリスでは「赤い下着が幸運を呼ぶ、とくに試験の時につけるといい」という情報が流れて、新聞でも「赤い下着が大人気で売り場から消えた」と騒いでいましたが、ちゃんとオックスフォード・ストリート辺りの街角で売られていましたね。まるで日本のような商戦術だったなあと思い出します。

Which Colour Of Lingerie Do Men Prefer?

Just before Valentine's Day, Telegraph showed the result of new survey "Survey suggests men prefer black lingerie."

Once red, racy lingerie was a popular gift for Valentine's Day from man in the UK (in Japan. only woman gives a present to man with a confess of love on the day... in most of the case).

New lingerie survey exposes the totally different result. More than half of British men say red is the least favorite colour for their partner's lingerie. Pink (18%) and flesh-tones (11%) are following after this. Most favorite colour is black, closely followed by white.

The survey also shows almost two-thirds women think their men prefer to see them in red lingerie. Well, how many women changed the colour of their bra and knickers on Valentine's Day after reading the article?

This seems a typical result of British men. The article in a Japanese women's magazine showed a similar survey which I read a couple of months ago. It said black was the least favorite colour of girlfriend's lingerie for Japanese men. As far as I remember, red and purple followed after that.

Are there any cultural difference in favorite colours in the light of anthropology? I look forward to their further study on this issue.

By the way, I mistook the description of the body of this survey "Dr Beckmann" as lingerie expert instead of laundrycare expert. When I searched the name, what I found was totally different from my expectation... it was a company handling cleaner for laundry or household. Yes, I saw their stain removers in Tesco or Sainsbury's.

Going back to several years ago, there was a gossip that red lingerie was a lucky item for women, especially when they had a exam. Some newspapers said "all women are rushing into a shop for red lingerie, it is difficult to find red one on the street." But I remember I could easily find it even around Oxford Street. It was really Japanese-like gimmick by retailers.
